Locals Afloat
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Kathryn has always loved drawing and art. Art has always been something she has loved and come back to as a hobby as time and inspiration arose. Mostly self-taught artist, she only started using watercolours late in 2016. Before this she mainly used graphite and coloured pencils for basic drawings.
In mid 2017 she completed a short watercolour botanical art course that improved her ability and understanding of the medium and this has been the stepping stone to her growth and desire to make a living as an artist - devoting time to developing her skills and shifting focus from painting being only a hobby. Kathryn has enjoyed watching her work grow and evolve as she discovers and tries new mediums. Her subject matter is usually nature based as she is constantly inspired by the world around me.
This is a beautiful scene from my local Altona area. Painted on 300gsm watercolour paper using watercolour paints and white gouache. This is a different paper to what I normally use and it didn't allow for any sharp lines which created a wonderful soft relaxing feel to the painting. The painting is 48.5cm x 30.2cm on a sheet 51.5cm x 33.4cm. It is unframed and unmounted and weighs 100grams. This item can be collected in the Hobsons Bay area.
