Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Kathryn has always loved drawing and art. Art has always been something she has loved and come back to as a hobby as time and inspiration arose. Mostly self-taught artist, she only started using watercolours late in 2016. Before this she mainly used graphite and coloured pencils for basic drawings.

In mid 2017 she completed a short watercolour botanical art course that improved her ability and understanding of the medium and this has been the stepping stone to her growth and desire to make a living as an artist - devoting time to developing her skills and shifting focus from painting being only a hobby. Kathryn has enjoyed watching her work grow and evolve as she discovers and tries new mediums. Her subject matter is usually nature based as she is constantly inspired by the world around me.

I love all of our native birds especially the little ones like wrens and robins - they are just such characters so it is no surprise that they find themselves the subject of my artwork quite often! My work is usually on paper but I can see the appeal of not needing to frame work so I have given my techniques a go on canvas and was pleased they worked. This painting is mixed media on canvas which has been sprayed with 4 coats mat varnish for protection. It is 20cm (W) x 20cm (H) x 1.5cm (D) and weighs 90gram. The painting is ready to hang, wire strung across the back of the stretched canvas frame. This item can be collected in the Hobsons Bay area.
